Two badges that are hard to get

Orvis built its endorsement programme to solve a problem every travelling sportsman knows: how do you tell, from a website, whether a lodge is any good? Their answer was to go and look, and to keep looking. The endorsement covers service, the professionalism of the staff, and respect for the natural resource — and it is withdrawn as readily as it is given.
Sierra Brava was named an Orvis Endorsed Lodge in 2010, the first in Córdoba to hold it.

The first venue outside the United States
The Beretta Trident programme, launched in 2010, is the only system that rates shooting venues as a whole. The evaluation is not about the shooting alone: it takes in the food, the lodging, the kennels, the guides and the staff, and it is carried out by an outside consultancy rather than by Beretta.
In February 2011, at the Safari Club International convention in Reno, Sierra Brava was announced as the programme's first international venue, with a One Trident rating for upland birds. Beretta's own estimate is that fewer than five per cent of destinations worldwide merit even a single Trident.
There is also a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, awarded for several consecutive years. It is a smaller thing than the other two, but it comes from the guests rather than from an inspector, which is its own kind of evidence.

What the badges actually mean
Service, the professionalism of the staff, and respect for the natural resource. Orvis inspects rather than takes a lodge's word for it, and the endorsement can be withdrawn. Sierra Brava has held it since 2010 and was the first lodge in Córdoba to be given one.
It is a rating of the whole venue — food, lodging, guides, staff, kennels, the shooting — carried out by an independent consultancy. Sierra Brava holds One Trident for upland birds, and was the first venue outside the United States admitted to the programme, in February 2011. Beretta reckons fewer than five per cent of destinations worldwide merit even one.
Only as far as it saves you a decision. Both programmes exist because a shooting trip is bought a year ahead, sight unseen, from photographs. An inspection someone else paid for is worth rather more than a gallery.
