The dorado is a hunting fish: it takes hard, runs, jumps and does its best to throw the hook. You fish it from a boat on a big, warm river, and the days are as much about the river as the fish. Río Bravo Lodge sits on the Paraná, in Santa Fe, with a dock at the bottom of the garden.
Patagonia is the other end of the scale. Three rivers — the Chimehuín, the Aluminé and the Collón Curá — six days, and no fishing pressure to speak of. If you have fished Scotland or the West Country, this is the water you have been imagining.

Before the water
They are different sports. Dorado is a hard-fighting river fish taken from a boat on the Paraná, over four days from Río Bravo in Santa Fe; trout is six days on three Patagonian rivers out of Junín de los Andes, with no fishing pressure. If you want a week that also has shooting in it, the dorado end is the one that combines.
November to the 31st of May. The six days are spent on the Chimehuín, the Aluminé and the Collón Curá, and your guide describes the following day’s water the evening before, so you know what to put in the bag.
No — fishing tackle is available to hire at the lodge, and it is included in the cast & blast package. Bring your own if you would rather fish with it; there is a waders room and a place to dry everything.
For the Paraná: fly into Santa Fe (SFN) — an hour from Buenos Aires — and the transfer to Río Bravo is two hours. For Patagonia: San Martín de los Andes, then thirty minutes to Junín de los Andes. Both transfers are included, and we meet you at the airport either way.
